The Salcedo Junior Nursery B class and Legaspi Toddlers went on a fieldwork at UCC Clockwork Blue Bay, Pasay to learn more about coffee as a seed and its benefits. The fieldwork was conducted by the trainers from UCC Clockwork. They started off with a brief history of how coffee beans are grown, roasted, brewed and prepared to get that yummy kick starter moms and dads drink to energize their day.

They all got a chance to observe the coffee brewing process by watching the UCC baristas in their work station. They first demonstrated how to prepare light, medium and dark roast coffee. This put the kids’ sense of touch, smell, and observation to work as they compared different coffee bean colors and aroma.

After roasting and grinding comes brewing. The kids were all in awe as they saw how these beans can be turned to coffee through different ways. They saw how coffee was brewed either hot or cold through a filter, and by using a syphon glassware.

To conclude the activity, the parents were invited for a coffee tasting session while the kids enjoyed grape juice with basil seeds. It was indeed a refreshing way to end the session. From tiny seeds in the ground, a new concoction has been found!
